How Facebook fonts work
Facebook does not let you pick a font for comments, bios, or captions. What you can do is paste characters that already look styled. Unicode, the standard every phone and computer uses for text, includes complete alphabets of bold, italic, and script letters. Because they are characters rather than formatting, they keep their look when you paste them into Facebook.
This page converts your text into every style at once. The conversion runs in your browser, so nothing you type is sent to us.
Where styled text works on Facebook
| Place | Styled Unicode text | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Posts and captions | Yes | Use for a headline or a few words |
| Comments and replies | Yes | Short emphasis reads best |
| Profile bio (Intro) | Yes | Check the preview before saving |
| Messenger chats | Yes | Displays like any other text |
| Profile name | Not recommended | Name standards prohibit symbols and mixed character sets |
| Page name | Not recommended | Page names follow their own rules; keep them plain |
Facebookโs rules for names
Facebookโs Help Center lists what a profile name cannot include: symbols, numbers, unusual capitalization, repeating characters, or punctuation, and characters from multiple languages. Styled Unicode letters fall outside the normal alphabet, so using them in your name risks a rejected change or a request to confirm your name. Put your styled text where Facebook expects creativity: posts, comments, and your bio.

Styles that suit Facebook
| Goal | Suggested style |
|---|---|

| Quote or aside | Italic Serif |
| Event or celebration post | Bold Cursive |
| Quiet label, like โUpdate:โ | Small caps |
| Correcting yourself | Strikethrough |

Keep searchable words plain
Facebook search, like most search engines, treats ๐๐จ๐ฅ๐ and Bold as different text. If you style a product name, an event title, or a hashtag, people searching for it may not find your post. Style the decoration around your message, not the words people will look for.
Why some Facebook fonts show as boxes
Each viewerโs device draws the text with its own fonts. If a device has no font containing a character, it shows an empty box. Plain bold, italic, and script letters are widely supported today; decorative frames and rare symbols are more likely to fail on older Android phones and older computers. Our guide on why fancy text shows as boxes explains the details.
Accessibility note
Screen readers may read styled letters one by one using their technical names, or skip them. A post written entirely in a Unicode font can be unreadable for blind friends and followers. Style a short headline and keep the rest of your post in plain text. More tips are in our fancy fonts and accessibility guide.
