How Instagram fonts work
Instagram does not let you pick a font for your profile or posts. What you can do is paste Unicode characters that look like different fonts. This page converts your text into dozens of these styles at once, ready to copy and paste into Instagram.
The text is generated in your browser. Nothing is sent to Instagram or to our servers until you paste it yourself.
Where you can use Instagram fonts
| Instagram field | Fancy text works? | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Username (@handle) | No | Letters, numbers, periods, and underscores only |
| Name | Yes | Shown in bold above your bio; changes are rate-limited |
| Bio | Yes | Character limit applies; styled letters may count double |
| Captions | Yes | Keep hashtags plain so they link correctly |
| Comments | Yes | Long styled comments are hard to read |
| Story text | Partly | Story fonts may not include every character |
| Direct messages | Yes | Displays depending on the recipientโs device |
How to change your Instagram font
- Type your name or bio text into the input box at the top of this page.
- Browse the results and tap Copy on the style you like.
- Open Instagram and go to your profile.
- Tap Edit profile, then tap Name or Bio.
- Long-press the field, tap Paste, and save.
- View your profile to confirm every character displays.
For captions and comments, paste the styled text the same way you would paste any text.
Popular styles for Instagram
| Use | Suggested style |
|---|---|
| Name at the top of your profile | Bold sans-serif or bold script |
| Bio headings (โDM for collabsโ) | Small caps or bold |
| Soft, decorated bio | Aesthetic frames or fullwidth |
| Playful captions | Bubble letters |
Each style has its own page: the cursive font generator, aesthetic fonts, and the bold text generator. You can also use the full list on the font style copy and paste home page.
Why Instagram fonts sometimes show as boxes
Styled characters display only when the viewerโs device has a font containing them. If a follower sees empty rectangles (tofu) or question marks, their phone or computer is missing that font, usually because of an older operating system. Instagramโs Story fonts can also lack some characters.
Safer choices:
- Bold, italic, and script styles have broad support.
- Avoid stacking rare symbols in your Name.
- Check your profile from a second phone if you can.
Tips for a readable Instagram profile
- Style one element, such as your Name or a single bio line, not everything.
- Keep links, email addresses, and handles plain so they work when tapped or copied.
- Keep hashtags plain. Styled hashtags may not link to the regular tag.
- Remember that Instagram may count styled letters as two characters toward bio limits.
Accessibility note
Screen readers such as VoiceOver and TalkBack may read Unicode styled letters by technical names, read them one at a time, or skip them. A fully styled bio may be unreadable to blind followers. Use styled text as decoration, and put anything people need to understand, like what you do or how to contact you, in plain text.
