How to Write a Cursive Capital B
Cursive capital B starts with a tall downstroke, then retraces up and adds two bumps on the right, a smaller one on top and a larger one below. Many handwriting styles finish B with a small curl and do not join it to the next letter.
How to Write a Lowercase Cursive b
Lowercase cursive b starts with a tall loop that rises to the top line and comes straight down. At the baseline it curves up into a small rounded bowl and ends with a short sideways bridge stroke at the middle line, which is where the next letter attaches.
Common Mistakes with Cursive B
Writers often drop the bridge stroke and pull b down to the baseline, which makes the next letter start too low and the word look like it has an l and an o. Keep the bowl small and the finishing stroke level with the middle line.
These notes describe common American school cursive. Handwriting programs differ in small details, so follow your teacher's model if it looks different.
Cursive B in Unicode
ℬ (U+212C) comes from the older Letterlike Symbols block (U+2100–U+214F), not from the Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols block like the other variants. Unicode had already encoded this character before 2001, so the math block leaves a reserved gap at that spot. Because a different part of the font draws it, it can look slightly different in weight or slant from the rest of a cursive word on some devices.
Unicode lists ℬ (U+212C) as the symbol for the Bernoulli function, which is why it was encoded on its own long before the full script alphabet.
